Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL)

The Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) has been fighting for the rights of injured people for over 25 years. A not-for-profit campaign organisation, APIL’s member lawyers (mainly solicitors, barristers and legal executives) are dedicated to changing the law, protecting and enhancing access to justice, and improving the services provided for victims of personal injury. Over the years APIL has grown to become the leading, most respected organisation in this field, constantly working to promote and develop expertise in the practise of personal injury law, for the benefit of injured people.

The Association of Personal Injury Lawyers:

  • Believes passionately that victims deserve committed, well trained lawyers to support their fight for justice;
  • Understands that injured people can often be the most vulnerable in society and need help;
  • Campaigns to make a tangible difference to the lives of injured people and society as a whole;
  • Reassures victims and acts fairly with honesty and integrity;
  • Drives up standards in personal injury law and process, encouraging innovation and efficiency;
  • Is ‘not for profit’ and does not seek to make money out of the misfortune of injured people;
  • Treats law as a rewarding vocation, not a job, and encourages its members to thrive in their work.

APIL provides accreditation for personal injury lawyers and their kitemark provides a recognised standard of competence and specialist expertise for solicitors and barristers dealing with personal injury claims.

Pan European Organisation of Personal Injury Lawyers (PEOPIL)

PEOPIL was founded in 1996 and formally established as a not-for-profit organisation in 1998 by European lawyers to improve and promote judicial co-operation and mutual knowledge of legal and judicial systems of European jurisdictions in the field of personal injury law.

The objectives of the organisation are:

  • To develop co-operation and networking of personal injury lawyers within Europe;
  • To promote access to the legal system for consumers suffering personal injury;
  • To promote higher standards of care and safety for consumers;
  • To promote proper and fair compensation for all personal injury cases;
  • To support and encourage the exchange of information and knowledge.

The development and expansion of PEOPIL is based upon recognition that the issues involved in personal injury litigation frequently extend beyond the national boundaries and require an international perspective and knowledge. The impact of EC legislation on personal injury law is growing steadily and this creates a need for knowledge of European legislation and a basic understanding of the Member States legislation in this field.
