Injuries following an accident should be taken seriously, especially those related to the hip. Not only such injuries may cause severe pain for the victim, delaying or denying treatment can lead to future problems, like osteoporosis, down the road.

Types of Hip Injuries:

  • A Dislocated Hip

Usually caused by the knee being slammed into the dashboard, which causes a displacement of the hip. Screw, plates, rods, and/or metal replacement components can be used to reduce and fixate a fracture. Or, if a fracture isn’t severe, non-surgical treatment options, such as pain medications, physical therapy, and activity modification, can be used.

  • Hip Fracture

The hip is composed of the head of the femur and pelvic acetabulum. Forceful impact in a collision can fracture either or both bones. Screw, plates, rods, and/or metal replacement components can be used to reduce and fixate a fracture. Or, if a fracture isn’t severe, non-surgical treatment options, such as pain medications, physical therapy etc can be used.

  • A Strain or Sprain

Hip muscle strains or ligament sprains are common after a road accident. Both types of injury are far less severe than a dislocation or fracture. Medical attention is however still required. Pain, swelling, inflammation, and decreased range of motion are all common symptoms that, when left untreated, can lead to decreased overall hip mobility. Treatment can include anti-inflammatory medication, physical therapy etc.

Main Causes

The most frequent hip injury cases are road accidents, especially involving motorcyclists. Work related accidents are another major cause for such injuries i.e a fall from a staircase, a scaffolding etc.

Consequences of such Accidents

Hip Injuries usually have long term effects even following a successful operation.

It is implied that the mobility of the patient will be restricted for some time which could be considerable. Progress will be slow and in stages and there is always the increased risk for future osteoarthritis.

It is hence fundamental to contact a lawyer who has the relevant experience in order to secure for you the compensation you deserve to fully cover your current and future expenses and losses.
